Video Games And The Video Game Industry - 1258 Words
Video games are a part of our entertainment industry and are more accessible than they have ever been. The video game industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the U.S. economy. According to Wallace (2014), the video game industry generated about $78.5 billion in revenue and only fell behind the film industry at $88.2 billion. As the industry continues to expand, so does the technology that gives the games more realism and immersion. Games depicting violence is becoming more graphic and detailed than ever before. When video technology was still in itââ¬â¢s infancy, it was easy to distinguish fantasy from reality. Graphics were often abstract, cartoon-like and the interactivity was limited. However, as the technology improved, so did the detail and realism of violence in video games. For example, recent games such as Mortal Kombat show highly extremely detailed scenes of gore, injury, and death that the gamer can inflict on a virtual opponent. It is predicted that by 2016 weââ¬â¢ll have a virtual reality headset that will allow players to be completely immersed inside the game. As violent video games become more realistic to the point where the distinction between virtual and reality is blurred, I wonder how will this affect the people that play them. In this paper, I will be discussing and reviewing many literatures in regards to the effect of video game violence on people. Social Media Does More Harm Than Good free essay sample
Ladies, gentlemen, there has recently been a debate as to whether social networking sites do more harm than good. Personally, I believe social networking sites are harmful and do have consequences. I have solid evidence to support my statement and so I would like to start with a true story concerning Facebook ââ¬â a popular social networking site. Not too long ago, a girl in her teens made a friend on Facebook ââ¬â a chat buddy. This other unidentified friend didnââ¬â¢t give any personal details and one day this girl and friend met up at the mall. The girl was never seen again. This is a serious matter because letââ¬â¢s say this happened to all girls ââ¬â it would be chaos. Another story is that of a suicide because a person couldnââ¬â¢t meet up with another person on another social networking site. People ââ¬â is our nation known for its numerous social networks which invade privacy and prevent outdoor activity and exercise? Are our students to spend time chatting online instead of studying for future careers which make this country great? The opposition argues that social networking sites give people their own space and that these blog sites represent fun and socialisation. We will write a custom essay sample on Social Media Does More Harm Than Good or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Well, would we not prefer our children to go outside and socialise and meet friends that they know where they live and they know their gender? Did people in the 60s need social networking sites? In the olden days we didnââ¬â¢t express a need for an online high tech chatting system. Social networking sites prevent youths from spending time with their parents and their siblings. Another issue about social networking sites is what if your child comes across discrimination or cyber bullying? This only adds to depression. If we are to be a happy nation we should restrict these sites to people above the age of sixteen. This is a fairly easy alternative which I am sure the majority of you would vote for.Overall, the benefits are few and the drawbacks are many ââ¬â social networking sites are the centre of misconduct, less studying and unsafe blogs. Do we want our youths to have their eyes glued to computer screens or their ears plugged to headphones? We must restrict social networking sites to 16s or above! Get your children outside socialising and inside studying!

The Influence of Hip Hop on the Black-American Culture free essay sample
HIP Hop as a musical genre has gone through much change not only In the content of the music, but the message conveyed and how many would say It has In some ways defined black culture in the last 20 years. A significant amount of hip hop music nowadays is geared towards painting this unrealistic image of hyper- materialism, sexism, and violence that ultimately assists in dragging black culture down, and the people as a whole. You look at hip hop artists like 50 Cent and IllWayne who Is reinforcing this thuggish persona, making music revolved around money and drugs and It paints a bleak picture for young blacks. These young impressionable youth view this way of life as the norm, and the ghetto pathology seen as an authentic part of black culture, even though it does nothing more than demean a multitude of black people. To start at the roots of hip hop however you can clearly see that the message of the music was not to promote violence, but to help curb crime and show that its not gla morous. We will write a custom essay sample on The Influence of Hip Hop on the Black-American Culture or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page During the sasss you had artists Like Grand Master Flash, and Public Enemy who preached black empowerment, and left Imparting lessons that didnt hinder but allow black culture to grow, as well as morale. This leads people to pondering nowadays, what happened to this once positive, intelligent music that defined a race and culture? You have 12 year old children listening to vulgar raps about sex, and prostitution, and for black kids in poor ghetto neighborhoods this fantasy driven music clamoring crime, is seen as the sole voice for these children ultimately view that lifestyle as the true way they should be acting. It Is as If hip hop music Is still attempting to sell this Image of the crime life, even when most of the artists have all the money in the world. Hip hop basically reversed the accomplishments of the black community, disguising itself as pertaining a strong message but just masked in ignorance and fraudulence. In order to fully understand how negatively hip hops embrace on the black culture has gotten you can look at great black entertainers before hip hop emerged and see the change In Integrity.Black entertainers Like Louis Armstrong, and Nat King Cole emerged during the Jim Crow era, a time of strong racial segregation, and skyrocketing poverty rates in black neighborhoods. It was these musicians who were always on the forefront of the fight for desegregation, and they were able to be heroes in a fight for equality, that was apparent through their music. Now in a stark contrast to those influential musicians you have the hip hop artists of today who are exploiting the crime and violent lifestyles common In there old communities. So there ho are not Just rappers but directly related to this reinforcement of black stereotypes. These rappers are not doing anything to give back to the community, in terms of teaching good morals and lessons to stay out of crime and go to school, but basking in the music filled with ignorant pimp stereotypes, and glorifying selling drugs. It would seem as if hip hop has taken black culture back 100 years in the impact that it is making on the black youth. The musical aesthetics of hip hop music do not seem to outweigh the outright vulgarity, and profanity laden lyrics that comprises cost hip hop songs. To look at a song in particular take Los Angles rapper Ice T song Cop Killer, where here raps got my black shirt on.I got my black gloves on. I got my ski mask on. This chits been too long. I got my 12-gauge sawed-off. I got my headlights turned off. Im bout to bust some shots off. Im bout to dust some cops off.. What does this say about black people as a whole, that they enjoy talking about killing police officers, I would safely say no, but as a voice for black people and artist whose influence reigns supreme over black in other positions it would seem that way. The language used by Ice T in this song in particular, and many other rap songs, with vulgarity and threatening content towards police, rival gangs, or Just other people. With this massive popularization of hip hop music on a world spectrum, with music videos of these rappers flashing diamond Jewelry, fancy cars, and scantily dress women, they are exploded into a super stardom. Even though there message through belligerent, profane lyrics sells best. Now it is not fair to say that all hip hop music portrays this same message that grades black culture, as there is positive hip hop. This positive hip hop went back to doing what musicians like Louis Armstrong, and Nat King Cole were trying to convey through their music and that was black empowerment. Now you can ask yourself what went wrong, how did hip hop music become the embodiment of ignorance in black culture? The answer is very simple, when musicians in the asss and asss were putting songs out they were in a position of low status, and used positive cultured music to rise there stature up. Nowadays rap is doing the exact opposite, it is sectioning off what is a very small portion of the black population living in poverty, about one fourth percent of the total population. Hip hop music has stooped the black people to this savage race of thugs and pimps and drug dealers solely because that is all people hear and most importantly see in the media. Now me being a hip hop fan makes this argument a much more fickle discussion, as I dont listen to a lot of the profane rap glorifying gang lifestyle and violence. You have many hip hop enthusiasts, producers, and intellectuals who see hip hop lenience, and the misogyny towards women, as a revolutionary cry from a youth that went through hardships in the ghetto. That partly make sense, as many hip hop artists feel that that the music is important to educate those on the tough life outreach to the youth in a way they can understand clearly. My thoughts however are strong on the foundation that hip hop being the authentic cry of blacks is an utter joke. Even as early as 40 years ago blacks were going through oppression much worse than today, and artists flaunting the mindset of an angry, violent, rebellious lack m an.Hip hop in my mind serves as the number one hindrance in the progress of African Americans socially, and politically. The many hardworking African Americans, who work as doctors and lawyers, are being held responsible for the overall image that people have of their people through music that they do not even necessarily find pleasant. In conclusion, looking at the state of hip hop you can see that it is as popular as ever, a lot of the time people want to hear whats catchy, and not what has the most significance in positive reinforcement within the lyrics of music.Hip hop music will continue to push this message of outright negligence of authority, and it is unfortunate to think that the idea of true blackness is defined by that genre of music. The only way that hip hop can move to a positive direction, is when black people take a stand and speak against the music and profane lyrics saying it is not what a majority of them promote. And until this is done, hip hop will continue to embarrass black people, and shoot there culture even more down the road until its completely too late.

The dog house Essay Example
The dog house Essay Example The dog house Essay The dog house Essay The Importance Of Theme In the story Navajo lessons, Cline and her brother Josh, go on a voyage to spend the summer In the Navajo reservation with their grandma. As soon as Cline got there she thought that it was going to be boring, throughout the story Cline gets more and more mature by realizing to care about others other than herself. In this story my theme is coming To Age. At first, Cline thinks that shes going to hate it there, so s soon as she got there she missed her friends and the city, thinking that its going to be boring. She also didnt like it because she couldnt understand the Navajo language, so all Cline did was listen to music. Cline does what she usually does. Until one day her grandma gets sick and Cline rushes for help (this shows that Cline is starting to care about others other than herself). Cline got there and didnt know what to say until the words Just blurt out of her (this kind of shows the universal theme of fate). After Cline realizes how Important It Is to care about others, she starts to care more. Like for example at the end she doesnt really boast about her saving her grandmas life. She actually Insists on the doctor to talk in Navajo, which doesnt reflect in the beginning of the story when she didnt like the Navajo language (this shows Coming Of Age). In conclusion, the theme of this story is Coming Of Age. This theme affects the way Cline acts because, Cline starts as regular careless girl who hates the Navajo reservation and ends up as a young responsible girl who loves the reservation. The theme proves that Cline has a change of heart, and she is Coming To Age.

Fashion Taste and Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Fashion Taste and Ethics - Essay Example The essay "Fashion Taste and Ethics" discovers the taste in fashion. If the word can be taken within this context, ways in which the word culture is used seems to be fine. However, there arguably seem to be a different view concerning the term culture ought to be viewed. Perhaps this can enlist some reaction. With a view to help people appreciate the wholesome significance of a culture for the better understanding of humanity it is it certain that there is meaningless distinction between low cultures and high cultures. This thus implies that it is impossible for a certain group of people to be said to be more cultured or otherwise have more cultures than others. It goes without saying that the term culture from the anthropological point of view has a different distinctive meaning away from what it is known. This paper, therefore, investigates the word culture with a view to provide a fairly precise definition. In this paper, other terms that encompass the term culture shall be discus sed. The paper shall cover some pertinent elements of culture, as well as elaborate how essential culture is as far as human species is concerned. The paper shall sum up with explaining the modern anthropological view concerning how physical or biological differences and cultural differences between the human populations are closely related. The most widely celebrated technological developments are those pertaining to culture. These technologies are widely celebrated because they have broken physical barriers, transforming the world. into a village. The eventuality is that the current era is characterized by increased interaction of people across all cultures in the world. Therefore, it cannot be disputed that, as far as intercultural interactions are concerned, communications remains a pertinent subject. Indeed, communication barriers are not uncommon in communication, especially in communications involving low context and high context cultures. What may make the subject further cr itical is when nonverbal communication is involved. Eye-contact non-verbal communication is one of the critical areas of concern in high-context and low-context intercultural communication. Eye contact is not only an important form of verbal communication, buts also a human form for communication; animals are often disturbed by eye contact (Salas, 1992). A substantial focus has been directed to understanding intercultural eye-contact communication, in order to foster cultural competence and minimize cultural conflict. However, few studies have focused on assessing the implications of eye-contact on instruction adherence, especially in the multi-cultural learning environment. In the early phases of human revolutions, most human activities were limited to organized groups, that is, societies. As time went by, the interaction among these societies opened up, extending across regions, cultures, and languages. Undoubtedly, trends in business activities followed the same trend. Even intri guing is the fact that the world has evolved to the extent that globalizations has made human activities subject to cultural interactions. The world is now a global village, where people across diverse culture and all regions of the world interact more frequently than ever. To this extent, it cannot be overemphasized that human beings, as well as
